ITV Green Room

The Film and TV Charity’s Looking Glass report shows how tough it is at the moment in our industry. That’s why ITV and FTVC are working together to support freelancers between jobs.

Last year we ran our first pilot of the Green Room with 20 freelancers in London. Green Roomers received mentorship, attended talks and workshops, had opportunities to pitch ideas and, crucially, found a supportive network of peers who understood what they were experiencing.

This time, we’re going bigger!

ITV is now looking for 50 freelancers to take part in our next Green Room programme, kicking off in January across three locations:

• ITV White City, London
• MediaCityUK, Manchester
• Boom Cymru, Cardiff

Successful applicants will join other experienced freelancers from different aspects of production in the ITV offices one day a week (lunch included!)

Applications close on Tuesday 24th November 2026 at 23.59, with all applicants (whether successful or not) informed by Friday 9th December. The first session will begin on Tuesday 19th January, with weekly sessions one day a week on a Tuesday until the final workshop on Tuesday 23rd March 2027.

We are looking to support freelancers, or those between jobs, across the industry. You do not need to have worked at ITV before to be eligible. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds as well as those who are from underrepresented groups including People of Colour and/or D/deaf, Disabled and Neurodivergent groups.

To be eligible to apply to participate in the programme, you must:

  • be at least 18 years old;
  • be available for the entire programme duration, save for gaining employment during the programme duration;
  • be a freelancer in the TV industry with at least five (5) years of experience in a behind-the-scenes role in the TV industry, currently not in employment or in a role, and looking for a new role;
  • have the right to work in the United Kingdom; and
  • be available to attend one of the ITV premises (ITV White City London; ITV Orange Tower, Manchester; or Boom Cymru, Cardiff) weekly for the programme duration.

The ITV Green Room is a peer network so you’ll be with a group of other experienced freelancers from different aspects of production. You’ll come together once a week on a Tuesday. Some of your time will be spent in workshops, networking events or training sessions; some of the time will be yours to use our offices and engage with each other as you need. Successful applicants will receive the key dates and activities prior to the initiative starting but the programme will run Tuesday 19th January to Tuesday 23rd March 2027. The final session will be in London and travel will be paid for individuals from Manchester and Cardiff to come to our White City office in London and meet as a big group for the final day together.

As part of The ITV Green Room, you also get access to an ITV mentor who can support you and will commit to three sessions with you during the programme. Throughout the programme we’ll ask you to fill in short surveys about how you’re finding your experience, and, at the end of the programme, we’ll complete an interview with you to understand how you’ve found the initiative. This will help us understand the impact the programme has had and how we can improve it moving forwards.

Over the course of the programme, participants will receive:

  • Workspace Access: One day a week access to their chosen ITV office as a cohort to work, connect and have lunch together.
  • Training & Development: Talks and workshops helping increase knowledge of the changing media landscape and emerging trends, and developing soft skills.
  • Mentoring: Three dedicated sessions with an ITV mentor to support career progression and contacts (in person or virtual depending on availability).
  • Networking: Opportunities to meet people from across ITV

We ask that people applying are, to the best of their knowledge, available to attend the weekly sessions at the ITV offices. However, we know things come up. In the event that it is not possible to attend a session, we ask that participants provide ITV with as much advance notice as possible if they are unable to attend.

The application process has been created in conjunction with the Film and TV Charity (FTVC) and their work around creating a mentally healthy workforce. There are a series of questions in the application form, which is hosted and processed by ITV, to help us determine your goals in applying for the programme: what you hope to get out of being part of the Green Room and what aspects of it will be of most benefit to you. We will work with FTVC to use this information to select a group of participants whose goals are compatible with the aims and objectives of the programme.

Yes definitely. Please email socialpurpose@itv.com if you have any specific questions on how ITV can accommodate you.

Brilliant! If you still can make it to some of the sessions that’s great. All we’d ask is that you keep in touch to complete our final evaluation research which will be an interview about your time on the programme.

We will be providing you with lunch for the days you're in the building with us. We will also provide our Green Roomers with £150 towards the cost of travelling to and from the ITV offices across the ten sessions, and for those outside of London, additionally covering the cost of travelling to London for the final session.

If you have a question which hasn’t been covered on this list, then please reach out to socialpurpose@itv.com and we’ll respond as soon as we can.

ITV's Green Room demonstrates the level of positive impact we can achieve when industry partners collaborate. Its success has led to ITV expanding it across the UK, creating a practical model of support that strengthens social connection and resilience across the screen workforce. I hope other broadcasters will emulate their efforts to support freelancers.
